Kiierr vs iRestore: Laser Hair Caps Compared (2026)

By DermaRatings Editorial TeamUpdated Facts checked 8 min read
Kiierr and iRestore both sell red light laser caps at two matching levels. At entry level, the iRestore Essential and Kiierr 148 Pro each cost $799 on the brand's own site2,11. One tier up, the iRestore Professional costs $1,499 and the Kiierr 272 Premier $1,199, a gap of $3004,13. Kiierr uses lasers only, iRestore mixes lasers with LEDs, and their refund rules work in very different ways1,5,10,14.
Quick answer
- Pick iRestore if you want a longer window before you must decide on a refund, 12 months instead of 714; you prefer shorter 25-minute sessions10; you would buy the Professional on Amazon, where it cost $89917.
- Pick Kiierr if you want laser diodes only, with no LEDs1; you want the lower direct price at the upper tier, $1,1994; you are willing to send monthly photos so the 25% return fee is waived5.
- Check first: both brands take 25% off most refunds5,14. Kiierr requires a before photo within 45 days of delivery5. iRestore's guarantee only covers orders made on its own website14.
Sudden, patchy or fast hair loss needs a dermatologist first, not a cap.

Notes. Prices from each store's product data2,4,11,13 and Amazon8,9,17. Specs from the product pages1,3,10,12. Guarantees5,14. FDA6,15. All checked 24 Oct 2026.
How we compared Checked on 24 Oct 2026. We paired the caps by tier and read all four product pages, each store's price data, both refund policies, the FDA 510(k) records and both summaries, and three Amazon listings. We used the same rows for every cap. We did not review the brands' studies in full. Nobody at DermaRatings has used either cap.
Price and what you get
At entry level the price is the same: $799.00 − $799.00 = $02,11. Kiierr lists $999 as the compare-at price2. iRestore also sells Essential kits with add-ons, from $869 to $1,02411.
At the upper tier, iRestore costs more on its own site: $1,499.00 − $1,199.00 = $300.004,13. Kiierr lists $1,799 as the compare-at price4. iRestore sells Professional kits from $1,569 to $1,72413.
Amazon flips the order at that tier. The iRestore Professional cost $899.00 there and the Kiierr 272 Premier $1,099.998,17. So on Amazon, Kiierr costs $1,099.99 − $899.00 = $200.99 more. But iRestore's money-back guarantee is "only valid for orders placed directly on this website"14. On Amazon you get Amazon's 30-day return window instead8,17.
Neither cap uses refills. Both brands mention FSA or HSA payment1,10.
Light and how each one is used
Kiierr. Both caps use "medical grade 650nm laser diodes (not LEDs)"1. The 148 Pro has 148 diodes and 740 mW of total power1. The 272 Premier has 272 diodes and 1,360 mW3. Both run for "30 Mins Every Other Day"1,3.
iRestore. Both caps mix lasers and LEDs at 655 nm10,12. The Essential has 120 diodes, 51 lasers and 69 LEDs, with 600 mW total10. The Professional has 282, 82 lasers and 200 LEDs, with 1,410 mW12. The pages say "25-Minute Treatments - 3 times a week" in one place and "25 minutes every other day" in another10,12. Amazon's listing says "2-3 times per week"17.
Time per week. Kiierr every other day works out to about 3.5 sessions a week, so 3.5 × 30 = 105 minutes1. iRestore at 3 sessions is 3 × 25 = 75 minutes10. At every other day, it is 3.5 × 25 = 87.5 minutes10. So Kiierr asks for roughly 18 to 30 more minutes a week.
Lasers vs LEDs. Kiierr's page stresses "real lasers (not LEDs)"1. iRestore's Amazon listing says "It's a misconception that LEDs don't work"17. Both are brand claims. We have not checked a study that settles it.
What each brand claims
iRestore says that in a double-blind study "100% of users experienced an increase in hair count, with an average hair growth of 43.2% in terminal hairs after just 16 weeks"10. Kiierr's page says "Rated 4.9 / 5.0 | Over 100,000+ Customers" and calls its tech "Clinically Proven"1. It does not name a study for its own caps on the page1. Treat all of these as brand claims.
Guarantee, warranty and returns
Kiierr. The refund is a "7 Month Growth Guarantee"5. The steps are strict5:
- Register for the guarantee with a before photo within 45 days of receiving the cap.
- Use it for the full 210 days.
- Email the refund team between day 210 and day 240.
- Post the cap back within 10 days of the request, at your cost.
"Once your product ships we do not offer refunds for any reason"5. A 25% fee comes off the refund. It is waived if you send 7 monthly photos or videos5. Unopened returns carry a $50 restocking fee5. The warranty is 2 years for caps bought from Kiierr, and battery replacement costs extra5. The 272 page offers a 5-year warranty add-on for $993.
iRestore. The "12-Month Money Back Guarantee" runs from the date of purchase14. After 12 months you request a return number between day 365 and day 400, and iRestore pays the return label14. Return before that and you pay shipping14. "Any returns of the iRESTORE Laser Hair Growth System are subject to a 25% service fee"14. The policy has no photo route to waive it. The site lists a 2-year warranty, with a 4-year upgrade for $39 (Essential) or $49 (Professional)10,12. iRestore's Amazon listing says "1-year manufacturer's warranty"17.
What the fee means in dollars. A 25% fee on a $799 cap is $799 × 0.25 = $199.75, so you get back $599.255,14. On the $1,199 Kiierr 272, that is $299.75 off, leaving $899.255. On the $1,499 iRestore Professional, it is $374.75 off, leaving $1,124.2514. iRestore's refund is also "less the Sales tax"14.
What buyers say
Amazon, iRestore Professional. 4.4 out of 5 from 1,309 ratings, with 73% five-star and 7% one-star17. Amazon's summary counts 211 mentions of effectiveness, 153 positive and 58 negative17. Reliability was split, 11 positive and 11 negative, with some saying the device "completely stopped working"17.
Amazon, Kiierr 272 Premier. 3.9 out of 5 from 112 ratings, with 58% five-star and 16% one-star8. Effectiveness had 36 mentions, 28 positive8. Some buyers said it "doesn't fit their head" or "doesn't hold a charge"8.
Amazon, Kiierr 148 Pro. 3.4 out of 5 from only 22 ratings, and unavailable9. That is too few to read much into.
Own sites. Kiierr's 148 and 272 pages both show "4.9 (2145 reviews)", so the count seems shared across caps1,3. iRestore's review score did not load in our fetch10. We could not load either brand's Trustpilot page on 24 Oct 2026.

Kiierr. K181878 names both caps, the "Model 272 Premier & Model 148 Pro"7. The summary describes Class 3R laser diodes with output of 5 mW or less each7.
iRestore. K183417 names the Professional and lists "82 red visible light, diode lasers and 200 red light super-luminescent diodes"16. That matches the page12. No record names the Essential15. Freedom Laser Therapy also holds K151662 "iRestore" (6 Jan 2016), K213094 "ID-500 iRestore Hair Growth System" (22 Dec 2021) and K222081 "ID-510 iRestore Elite" (13 Oct 2022)15. None of them names the Essential, so ask iRestore which record covers it.
Both records cover the same groups: early to mid pattern hair loss and lighter to medium skin types7,16. iRestore's Amazon listing says buyers must be 18 or older and should ask a doctor if they take light-sensitising medicines17.
Verdict
These caps differ more in terms than in specs. Kiierr uses lasers only, costs $300 less than iRestore at the upper tier on its own site, and lets you avoid the 25% fee with monthly photos. Its downside is a strict 7-month window that starts with a 45-day photo step. iRestore mixes lasers with LEDs and gives you 12 months to decide, but always takes 25%. Its Essential has no FDA record by name, and its Amazon listing states a shorter warranty. Pick the one whose schedule and refund steps you will actually follow.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Kiierr hat work?
Kiierr's 148 and 272 caps are FDA-cleared under 510(k) K181878 to promote hair growth in men and women with pattern hair loss in set stages. Clearance is not proof that a cap will work for you. Kiierr backs this with a 7-month growth guarantee, but you must register a before photo within 45 days, and a 25% fee applies unless you send monthly photos.
What is better than iRestore?
No cap is better for everyone. Kiierr's caps use lasers only and cost $799 or $1,199 on its site. iRestore mixes lasers with LEDs and costs $799 or $1,499 there. The terms differ more than the specs: 7 months versus 12 months, each with a 25% return fee. If you are also weighing needling kits, read our micro-infusion for hair guide.
Does iRestore hair growth actually work?
The iRestore Professional 282 is FDA-cleared under 510(k) K183417 to promote hair growth in men and women with pattern hair loss in set stages. iRestore cites a double-blind study with an average 43.2% rise in hair count at 16 weeks. That is a brand claim; we did not review the study. No FDA record names the Essential model.
How much does the Kiierr cap cost?
On 24 Oct 2026 Kiierr's own site listed the 148 Pro at $799, down from $999, and the 272 Premier at $1,199, down from $1,799. Amazon listed the 272 Premier at $1,099.99. The 148 Pro showed as unavailable on Amazon that day. Neither cap needs refills, so the one-off price is the device cost.
